NEWSFLASH – Changes to Occupations in Demand September 2006

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES CHANGES!
The Federal Government today announced changes to the Migration Occupations in Demand list. The Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) lists those occupations and specialisations identified by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) that are in short supply across Australia. For a person making a visa application to Australia, having an occupation on the demand list may result in a number of advantages in applying for Australian permanent residence.
The occupations added to the list today include Child Care Co-ordinator, Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer and Surveyors. The only Trades occupation removed from the list is Flat Glass Tradespersons. Notably, no additional Trades occupations were included on the demand list.
For those temporary visa holders or prospective migrants seeking a permanent visa to Australia, if you have an occupation which is currently on the demand list you should make a visa application as soon as possible in order to gain the benefit of being on the list.
The current list of occupations in demand is available at www.immi.gov.au – for your convenience I have included the latest list below.
